Korean Japanese phood @ Macguli, Desa Sri Hartamas

I was intending to go to mont kiara to look for this Bijou cafe, after an hour searching for it, then only I realize it was no longer open! Disappointed and hungry, I thought of going to Hartamas for Dae Sa Kwan korean food, and sigh, not open as well. So i parked my car and walked around searching for food and saw this huge banner with 4 chefs' faces on it hanging on the 1st floor of this row of shops at Hartamas and just thought of giving it a try. No, I didn't try it because of the chefs' looks =.="

Macguli, a Korean restaurant but also feature japanese items in their menu, is located on the first floor of the row of shops opposite KFC Hartamas.

I went in and there were a couple of other tables with guests, all speaking Korean. So i guess it's a place where Koreans are their regulars.

A variety of food that they offer, those that you often find in other Korean restaurants you will find it here. And much to my surprise I saw a page with sushi's and sashimi's.

I ordered a pair of salmon sushi (RM8) to try and their Kimchi Jigae (kimchi soup) RM20 which comes with a bowl of rice. To be honest, korean phood is NOT cheap. You will easily spend RM50 when you dine in.

After taking my order, I was presented with 6 varieties of small appetizers while my orders are being prepared. Ahh, I always enjoy their mini appetizers. Their kimchi is good. And they offer refills.I always love hot hot steamy soupy dishes. Always when I go for Korean phood I always would order their Kimchi Jigae or their soy bean paste soup. Well, imo, Macguli's kimchi jigae has the right texture to my liking, not too thick, and not too wattery. It has a lot of vegetables and meat inside but the taste was rather bland. I expected a more meaty soup base but it just taste of vege broth and perhaps not boiled with meat bones. Perhaps it's supposed to be like that.

My salmon sushi came together with a pair of sushi. I told the waiter that I didn't order that and he told me that it's complimentary O.o. Hmm. Maybe all guests gets that. I didn't ask. Or maybe they thought I'm a journalist because I was busy chik-chak-chik-chak with my camera.

A nice place to unwind yourself although not much of a view outside the restaurant but it's just a quiet cozy little restaurant. I've yet to try their other dishes so cannot comment much.

When the bill came, they gave me a 10% discount (equivalent to they deducted the service charge) so I paid RM28 in total.

Unwind @ Hollys Coffee

Was introduced to this cafe by few friends of mine who loves everything from Korea. Hollys Coffee originated from Korea, no I don't mean their coffee beans are from Korea, but the shop is from Korea. They first open in Korea bringing in Arabica coffee beans. I guess they do pretty well there thus opening an outlet over here. Honestly, it's a competitive business locally doing the coffee business, but hmm, I guess typical Malaysian culture lah, everything 'imported' is good. WoOt!

Was in The Curve last weekend and since we had nothing to do while waiting for another friend, my this friend suggested Hollys for a drink to kill time. Went to 'sesame green bean' but they didn't have the tong-sui that I feel like eating, so, why not.





Being a first timer here, I didn't know what to order. Hmm, I can't drink coffee or tea, so I was left with only hot choc, and ice blended to choose from. The menu list is long, various sorts of latte, cappucino, tea, ice blended etc. They also offer snacks and food for diners. Looking looking, I spotted something special...

Sweet Potato Latte （RM11)!

Basically I think it's sweet potato syrup with frothy milk with bits of almond on the top. But it's good!! Not too sweet, suitable for 'caffeine intolerance' people like me.

My friend ordered the hot chocolate (RM9). Pretty okay but too sweet. And somehow not hot enough. I like my hot beverage really, really hot.

The interior of Hollys were pretty good. Comfy chairs to sit, free wifi, typical cafe style. There's indoor and also outdoor for smoking guests. The place is big, easily fit about 80.

Christmas Tree!

They have ready cut notes for you to write messages and hang on the tree. I tried reading some of it, but quite a lot were in Korean. Tak tau bacalah!

The next time you're there, spot mine! :D

PS: Their price is nett price without tax/surcharge. And you get a stamp for every beverage you purchase. At 5 stamps you get a free cookie OR at 10 stamps you get a free drink!

IMHO: Kinda pricey, but if you're the type of person who can go to Starbucks, or Coffee Bean often, why not try this? They also have another outlet at NZX.

Economical Korean @ Haeun Khon

Mum read some good reviews about this restaurant in Amcorp Mall and since she has flu and need spicy soups to 'tung' her nose, and my not-a-fan-of-Korean-food dad wasn't around for dinner one night, she decided to go try it.

This particular restaurant is situated on the third floor of Amcorp. Just few doors away from Mcd. As you can see in the right hand corner of the first pic, many newspaper articles featuring it.

I read few blogs saying the beef bulgogi, kimchi soup and bbq lamb are nice. So of course we go for the recommended ones.

Kimchi soup (I think is RM15+) It actually comes in a set with rice. But if you want just the soup, it's the same price but bigger portion. Nice nice nice! Best that I've tasted so far. Spicy but yummy! Lotsa veges, smooth tofus and thick glass noodles. Yum yum!

I ordered the beef bulgogi set (RM15.90). Comes in a set with rice, soup, korean pancake, kimchi, cold tofu and fruit. Best eaten while it's hot!


Mum ordered the BBQ lamb set. (RM17.90) Also comes with rice, soup, pancake, tofu, kimchi and fruit. Nice nice. Tender and well marinated. However it took quite long to prepare this one. While my beef bulgogi came quite fast. So as I waited for mum's lamb to come, my beef became cold :( They also have the famous korean dish Ginseng Chicken Soup. Be sure to ask them to serve them together if you are ordering anything else with the lamb/ginseng chicken.

They also serve japanese food. It's quite crowded even during weekdays.
